Spring is here! We outsiiiiide!
If you’re anything like the millions of folks who struggle with Seasonal Affect Disorder, you’re excited to kick the season off outside with longer days and warmer temperatures. I’ve rounded up a few activities happening this April, with subsequent posts in May and the summer months. Don’t forget to account for any allergy needs you may have!
This April, in Richmond we have the following to look forward to:
Richmond Restaurant Week: April 22-28. This year, $5.24 of every meal purchased will go to Feed More, a Richmond-based nonprofit that collects, prepares, and distributes food to neighbors in need. Participating restaurants include Alewife, And Dim Sum, Bar Solita, Conejo, Jewfro, Les Crepes Carytown, Soul Taco, Southbound, Southern Kitchen (who has THE BEST catfish 😋), Tarrants (Downtown and West), The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, The Daily Kitchen and Bar (Carytown and Short Pump), and West Coast Provisions (among many others).
2024 Richmond History Makers: April 11. This year's celebration at The Valentine Museum honors the people, places, and organizations that have had the greatest impact on Richmond's history.
The Big Bloom: April 12th at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, The Big Bloom kicks off spring with live performances and art.
Richmond African American Book Festival: April 13 at Diversity Richmond, this event celebrates African American literature and features book signings, presentations, workshops, kids activities, music, and more.
Carytown Spring Artisan Market: April 13 - April 14 City Stadium will have food trucks, artisans and vendors.
Black Panther in Concert: April 13 at the Altria Theater, the Richmond Symphony performs the TDE score while the movie is projected on the big screen.
Punjabi Mela Indian Festival: on April 20th at the Main Street Station, enjoy delicious Indian food, vibrant music, and dance performances.
Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k: on April 20, watch/cheer, run, or walk this 10k that's the 14th largest race in the U.S.
The Brunch Market: on April 28 at Pinky's, shop local vendors at this spring market. Info here.

DC Emancipation Day: April 14. Held at Freedom Plaza, with headline performances by Ginuwine and Kelly Price, Emancipation Day honors the day President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which freed over 3,100 enslaved persons in the District of Columbia.
Washington D.C. International Film Festival also known as Filmfest DC: April 18-28. The festival will highlight 62 films from 36 countries.
